Until recently a migration to DB2 from a Datacom® platform involved costly re-engineering projects for customers who may already have a considerable financial and technological investment in existing application systems. This exercise was always a last alternative due to the high risk factors associated with reproducing critical business logic.

2BDB2/Datacom leverages your investment by allowing existing Datacom® application programs to transparently access data in DB2. This is achieved without the need for source code changes to existing application programs. This approach offers major benefits in reducing testing time and simplifying the migration process. Use of 2BDB2 allows you to rapidly deploy a DB2 database and take immediate advantage of the benefits of DB2 whilst continuing to maximize the use of existing application programming expertise.

2BDB2/Datacom provides transparent conversion from Datacom® to DB2.

The 2BDB2/Datacom Data Converter component is responsible for extracting table definitions from the Datacom Data Dictionary, creating equivalent DB2 tables and migrating the data from the DB2 tables.

This data conversion can be done as a stand-alone process or can be combined with the 2BDB2/Datacom-Transparency product to provide a complete data migration and access package.

The 2BDB2/Datacom-Transparency component allows existing DBNTRY programs to access the data in DB2 without requiring any changes to the application programs.
