Small to medium tree to 20m, found within vine thickets (or on their margins) north from the Narrabri area. Branchlets ribbed; bark hard and furrowed, almost black in colour. Phyllodes simple, alternate, entire, to 25cm in length; lance- or sickle-shaped, with a pointed tip. Blade leathery, mostly silvery grey, either hairless or with a covering of tiny hairs. Many longitudinal veins present (not forming a network) with 3-5 of these being more prominent. One raised gland present, near the base. Flowers small, golden yellow, borne in globose heads. Appear July to Oct. Fruit a long, narrow curved pod to 11cm in length, somewhat constricted between the seeds. Ripe Nov to Dec. Forms large thickets in inland regions due to its suckering habit. Propagation from fresh seed, which has a short period of viability due to the unusually thin seed coat in this species (unlike most wattles, which have hard-coated seeds that usually respond to hot water treatment). Root cuttings could also be successful. An attractive wattle, useful in warm to hot areas for shade and shelter. Tolerant of heavy, clay soils. Fast growing but quite long-lived.
