Tall shrub to medium tree, to about 15m, often found on the margins of subtropical, dry and littoral rainforest, north from East Gippsland, Vic. Bark of older stems is fissured, while younger branchlets have yellowish lenticels (breathing pores). Phyllodes simple, alternate, to 18cm in length; more-or-less linear on juvenile plants, while narrow-elliptic to oblong-lanceolate (and curved to more-or-less straight, with a pointed tip) on mature plants. Blades hairless, mid-green, papery to thinly leathery, with 1-5 prominent longitudinal veins; finer veins crossing and joining each other. One basal gland present, up to 6mm from the base. Flowers small, pale yellow, borne in spikes up to 6cm long, in upper axils. Appear Dec to July. Fruit a woody pod, finely hairy, to 14cm long; variably and loosely twisted. Ripe Jan to Aug. Propagation from seed.
