Big shrub/small tree to 8 metres in dry rainforest and sub-tropical rainforest. Endemic to Australia, from Kiama, NSW to Burdekin River, Qld. Leaves are simple, opposite; blade smooth and thickish, light green. Elliptical, 4-10 cm long. Flowers are pale green, four petals, flowering August to November. Fruit is drupe, orange/red, globular to ovoid, 1 cm in diameter. Ripe March to July. A very ornamental tree/shrub. Grows well on dry/marginal sites, though can be slow growing. Not edible. Seed should be sown fresh, and germinate easily, though it may take a number of months. Was historically used for the manufacture of staves, oars and shingles.
