Small tree to 8m in dry rainforest, along scrubby watercourses and sometimes open forest. From Richmond River, NSW to Gulf of Carpentaria, Qld., Northern WA and Malasia & Philippines. Flowers are green/yellow in short racemes Jan - Aug. Fruit is red drupe, globular on thick rounded pedicel Ripe Apr to Nov Difficult to establish in the garden, unheard of in cultivation. Is edible. Seed is difficult to germinate. Traditional Aboriginal uses are varied. Fruit was eaten raw. Bark used as contraceptive. Burning leaves repelled insects. Leaves used in a solution to treat sores. The tree is parasitic attacking the roots of the host tree.
