Small slender herbs or small shrubs 60-90 cm high, covered with a close stellate tomentum and usually with longer spreading hairs on the branches and petioles; leaves pubescent on both surfaces, crenate, cordate, ovate-lanceolate to orbicular, acuminate or acute, 1.3-9 cm long, on a slender petiole. Peduncles longer than the petioles and sometimes exceeding the leaves; calyx 5-7 mm long, indented at the base, with lanceolate lobes slightly longer than the tube; corolla yellow, less than twice as long as the calyx. Capsule as long as to twice as long as the calyx, 5-8 mm diam., truncate at the summit, composed of 10 or fewer fruitlets each with 2 short spreading-erect awns c. 2 mm long and 2 or 3 glabrous seeds.
