Notes
Shrub or small tree to 8m in dry rainforest and vine scrubs north from the Boonah area, in Qld. Leaves alternate, ovate to oblong-ovate and thin to 6cm long; dark green, hairless and somewhat glossy above, paler grey-green and finely hairy below. Fine net veins on both surfaces. Flowers greenish, from the leaf axils, from Dec to Jan. Fruit a reddish drupe 4-5mm in diameter, ripe Feb to June. Suitable for small gardens, it is attractive in fruit and a very hardy plant. Would probably be hard to find in local nurseries. Propagate from fresh seed. Fruit eaten by birds (and possibly bats). Distinguished from the similar but larger B. exaltata by the smaller leaves and fruit (which is yellow in the latter) and the hairs on the underside. It also generally has fewer lateral veins (8-10 pairs, as against 10-17 pairs in B.exaltata).
