Animal Records System

Long Grass Nature Refuge have written a comprehensive Animal Records System designed specifically for wildlife rehabilitators. This system is made available free of charge to wildlife carers on the sole condition that they do not sell it or charge anyone else for its use. The system comes in two versions.

The web based version

The web based version is designed to be installed on your own website and shared by multiple people. It has been running on our website for more than 2 years and is constantly being improved. Note that this system has only been tested with Internet Explorer and may not work if you use some other web browser.
**16 March 2009** The online system now supports Firefox

If you want to try our Online Animal Records System, contact Long Grass Nature Refuge to request a sign-on to the web based version. This will enable you to immediately start recording your animal records via the internet. You can also request a copy of the web based version to install on your website. This is an option for care groups who want to manage their own database.

The stand alone version

The stand alone windows version runs on a single PC and does not require internet access. This is the best option for users who do not have fast internet connections and do not want to share their data with other members of their group.

Coming Soon! A totally revamped stand-alone version will be available in the 3rd quarter of 2009. This will have many new features and will be support wildlife as well as domestic animals such as horses and cats and dogs.

Download the stand-alone version (32.4M).

Read the installation instructions.

Please note that

  • the stand-alone version needs to run with Administrator authority.
If you have a problem with the program failing to start then do the following:
On Vista “Right click” on the desktop icon and select “Run as Administrator”. If this fixes the problem then “Right click” on the icon, select properties->shortcut->advanced and tick the “run as administrator” box.
On XP “Right click” on the desktop icon and select “Run As” and then choose administrator.
To make the change permanent “right click”, select properties->shortcut->advanced->run with different credentials.
  • For some reason if you have your screen resolution set to 800x600 the list of animals does not display. You will be able to add animals but instead of seeing a list of animals in a table you see a small box in the middle of the screen. Change your screen resolution to something higher and the list of animals will appear.

Except in exceptional circumstances the stand-alone system is now only available as a download
