As we go through some of the screens, I will show you how to add your own information as well as point out
some of the useful features of this program. Even a computer novice would be delighted with its ease of use
You may search for a particular herb by Scientific/Botanic, or common name
There are almost 200 Medical Indications that may be experienced. These relate to symptoms and range from Abcess to Wounds-bleeding. A complete list of 'Medical Indications' and their meaning is available in the glossary section of help.
Here we have set 'Medical Indications' to search for herbs useful in the treatment of Anorexia nervosa. We are able to further refine searches by including a 'Medical Action'. There are 80 'Medical Actions' ranging from adaptogenic to vulnerary. 'Medical Actions' are the effect the herb has on the body. A complete list of 'Medical Actions' and their meaning may be found in the glossary section of help
Here we have refined the list of herbs useful in the treatment of Anorexia nervosa by adding herbs that also have a nutritive action
on the body (found under 'Medical Actions'). Our search now reveals herbs that are useful in the treatment of Anorexia nervosa and
also have a nutritive action on the body.
Lets have a look at one of these herbs, 'Nasturtium officinale'
Each herb has a quality photograph. In the photo text section there is a list of common names and a brief description of the herbs
main medicinal uses. You may add additonal common names as well as add to the brief description through the add notes function that
is circled in red on the screen shot.
Note, common names that you add are included in the common name search for all of the herbs in
the database
'Plant description' provides information on the botany of the plant. If you have additional botanical information you would like to add, this may be done through the add notes function. Your text is displayed under a heading called 'My notes'.
Here I have added some additional information into 'Plant description'. The Add notes field is limitless so don't worry that you may run out of space, you won't
Under Chemistry, the main chemical constituents of the herb are listed. If you would like to add more detail on chemistry, once again you may do this through the add notes function. Your additions will appear under a heading called 'My notes'. A description of 23 of the main chemical constituents of herbs is available in the glossary section of help
In 'Medicinal Uses' you will find, 'Parts Used', 'Medical Indications', Medical Actions' Preparation and Dosage' and 'Cautions'. You are unable to add your notes to the medicinal uses field. Explanations of 'Preparations', 'Medical Indications' and 'Medical Actions' are available in the glossary section of help
There is information on the History & Folklore of the herb. If you would like to add more detail on History & Folklore, once
again you may do this through the add notes function. Your additions will appear under a heading called 'My notes'
The next 2 buttons
after History & Folklore are Notes 1 and Notes 2. These are free text fields where you may add whatever information you like
Remember when we were looking at herbs useful in the treatment
of, Anorexia nervosa that had a nutritive affect on the body and we came up with Nasturtium officinale and Cetraria islandica. To
get back to your search results, click on the 'Your Enquiry' button and you will be taken back to your search results. This then allows
you to look at other herbs that were selected in your search
All pictures and information on herbs may be printed out using the 'Print'
