Orphan Possum
This poor little possum was found in a roof cavity with its long dead mother. Luckily we got her in time and she
is doing well.
Three Invalids
At the end of October 2007 we took in a magpie with a broken wing, a kookaburra with a broken wing and an
orphaned peewee. Here they all are buddied up in the new aviary.
Welcome Swallows
A pair of welcome swallows have been nesting on our verandah and today four babies started flying for the first
time. These shots show the parents feeding them on the fence.
Striated Pardalote
Four baby striated pardalotes were brought in after their mother was killed by a cat. Three died fairly rapidly
but the fourth is thriving and flying around the house, which looks more like an aviary at present.
Close Encounters
A wild flock of cockatoos has been visiting lately and today two of them landed on the top of the aviary and
spent twenty minutes interacting with our three birds. This is a good sign for the prospects of eventually releasing our three to
join the wild mob.
Peaches & Napoleon
Peaches the little pink possum is now a fully furred bundle of energy and has a little boy possum to keep
her company. These two have taken to climbing onto the kangaroo stands at night and terrifying the indoor joeys.
JoJo and Micky
JoJo and Micky are two older (about 20) sulphur crested cockatoos who came to join 'Clocky'. They have settled
in to the large aviary very well after spending most of their lives in an 'ordinary' sized cocky cage. They spend all day chewing
branches and have a great time interacting with the local birdlife.
Stubby and Kelli
Stubby came in as a nearly furless little (red-necked) wallaby. Kelli was bigger but both still need the 2 a.m.
feed.
Darby & Malachie
Two little red kangaroo boys whose mothers were killed on the road.
Adelaides baby
Adelaide was released last year and now has a healthy young baby that has just started to hop out.
20kg Female Red Kangaroo
Erin is a 20kg red kangaroo who was brought in from near Gatton.
Peaches
Peaches is a common brushtail possum. Her mother was injured in a car accident in Toowoomba and was kept in care for
a couple of weeks after having her pouch stitched. She was unable to take Peaches back and so now we have this baby on 4 hourly feeds.
Another Red kangaroo joey
Henna was another road accident victim who has come to join Digger.
Red kangaroo joey
Digger was picked up on Anzac day by a truck driver who saw the ears wiggling in the dead mothers pouch.
Old Man Kangaroo
This very old male Eastern Grey kangaroo was lying in a yard outside of Dalby for 2 weeks with a broken tail.
The property owner called everyone she could think of and no-one was interested in helping. She finally got on to us and we drove
out with a crate and the tranquiliser gun. He was so weak that the tranquiliser gun was unnecessary. Just a bag of bones. He is one
of the biggest grey kangaroos that we have seen. His top teeth are nearly worn away which shows how old he must be and he has a bullet
hole that passes through both ears. We gave him a dose of long acting antibiotics and worm treatment. We have been hand feeding him
several times a day with a syringe fitted with a mammal teat, on a boiled up slurry of rolled oats, steamed flaked barley, baby cereal,
sweet potato and apple. After 5 days he was able to sit up and look around. Unfortunately he was too far gone and after 2 weeks he
died peacefully in his sleep.
