Caruso is a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo who was rescued as a featherless baby in february 2002. he
was raised for 5 years by a very caring couple and was eventually brought to us for rehabilitation and release back into the wild.

Environmental Business Award

Long Grass Systems Pty Ltd were awarded the inaugural 2009 Regional Environmental Business
Award. The award was presented at a dinner hosted by Sophie Formica, presenter on Channel 7's The Great Outdoors at the Lowood High
School hall on Saturday 31st October.
Baby Plovers

This morning we found a pile of feathers near the dam and 2 baby plovers, no more than a day old in the
middle of the road nearby. We named them Salt and Pepper and they are thriving on a diet of live termites, meal worms, crickets
and anything else we can catch. They have doubled in weight in one week.

Lorikeet release
December 2009
Wordsworth, a scaly breasted lorikeet, was caught by a member of the public and had his wing feathers
clipped. They then decided they didnt want him after all and handed him in to the local vet who gave him to us. It tokk over a year
for his flight feathers to grow back and for him to regain his strength. In the meantime we obtained another "greenie", Longfellow,
to keep him company. After a long road they are both now released and happily living in the wild.
Migaloo the magpie

Migaloo came to us as an orphaned baby in October 2009. We kept him in care until his feathers were
waterproofed and he could fly and feed himself. He was released on the 3rd December 2009 and comes back at least twice a day for some
supplementary food. He spends a lot of time catching bugs on the grass around the house and sleeps in the nearby trees. The resident
magpie group seems to have accepted him quite happily and we have even seen him flying off with one of the group.
Drought returns
December 2009
Last December, after 5 years of drought, we had heavy rains and it seemed like the seasons may have changed
for the better. Unfortunately when summer ended, so did the rain. This year we have had no significant falls of rain since March and
with a string of days with temperatures in the 40's the land has dried up. Four of our six dams are dry, the paddocks are parched
and the forests are dry and brittle.
Giant Moth
28th December 2009
A giant moth found this morning on a tree guard around a grape vine in the back garden. This is a
12.5mm square mesh so the moth is about 125mm from toes to wing tip.
